Utah legislators should support clean air agenda

In 2019, I purchased an all-electric vehicle, a Chevy Bolt, because I wanted to be part of the solution to cleaner air and to combat climate change here in the Salt Lake Valley.

Two years ago, Gov. Gary Herbert budgeted $100 million in an effort to put in place measures to clean the air in Salt Lake Valley. Why is the Utah Legislature moving away from that idea? It makes no sense, especially when it impacts the health and safety of our Utah communities. The legislature should encourage people to purchase hybrid and all-electric vehicles so we can enjoy more healthy green days outside.

I don’t mind paying my fair share of taxes, in the form of a vehicle registration fee, to maintain our roads — but increasing the annual registration fee for hybrid and all-electric vehicles is ridiculous and in contradiction to Gov. Herbert’s agenda for clean air.
