New COVID-19 cases plummet in Utah

Utah reported far fewer coronavirus cases in the week ending Sunday, adding 7,984 new cases. That’s down 21.9% from the previous week’s toll of 10,219 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Utah ranked No. 18 among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the latest week the United States added 817,934 reported cases of coronavirus, a decrease of -21.3% from the week before. Across the country, 3 states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.

Across Utah, cases fell in seven counties, with the best declines in Utah, Salt Lake and Davis counties.
