Two dogs that attacked and injured a 9-year-old girl in Eagle Mountain have been returned to their owners.

A spokesman for the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said having the dogs killed “was something we were considering,” but acted on the advice of the Utah County Attorney’s Office.

“There was a lot of sentiment in the community that it might be best if the dogs were put down,” said Sgt. Spencer Cannon. “But we have to be on sound legal footing.”

On Sept. 12, the victim was riding her bike in the Meadow Ranch area of Eagle Mountain when two “large dogs,” which police identified as a mastiff and a wire terrier, knocked her off her bike and bit and scratched her on her torso and arms. Her injuries were serious, but not life-threatening, according to police.
